5 of the best parenting hacks
26 July 2018
Being a parent can be hard work – sleepless nights, countless bedtime stories and so much spilled milk. It’s not all doom and gloom though, as starting a family is an incredibly joyful and rewarding stage of life. Children are some of our best teachers in life, reminding us to play more and be curious.
But there’s a lot more to raising children than meets the eye. With so much to do and not a lot of spare time to do it, we’ve put together 5 of the best parenting hacks to make your life a little easier.
1. Baby food jars to store your spices
If you’re environmentally – and budget – conscious, reusing your old baby food jars is one way to get more millage out of something you have to use everyday as a new parent. Paint the lids with chalkboard paint and write the spice name on the top for an elegant addition to your pantry.
2. Self-adhesive hooks as bib hangers
How often do you end up rummaging through the house in search of yet another baby bib? Stick a self-adhesive hook on the back of your child’s highchair to hang a few extra bibs and you’ll save time (and food) at mealtimes.
3. Open a savings account for your child
We all know how expensive education and adult life can be, so why not give your kids a big head start and open a savings account for them.
Adding a small amount of money every week, fortnight or month, will add up in the long run. You could even schedule a deposit so you don’t even have to think about it. It’s just one of the ways you can save better and start to teach your child about money.
Also, once your child turns 11 years old, they can get their own Everyday Basics account with us. It has no monthly account keeping fee and no transaction fees. Plus they can also get their very own eftpos card!
4. Turn the baby crib into a desk as the kids grow up
For those who love a bit of DIY, you can turn the baby crib into a cute desk for your little ones by removing one of the sides. Add in some chairs and cover their new desk in a fun print, and you’ve got yourself a play station for drawing and fun!
5. Stickers inside shoes for shoes on the right foot
This one is genius. Cut a sticker in half and place the left half on the inside sole of the left shoe, then place the right half on the sole of the right shoe. This should help your kid to put their shoes on right everytime (and give you more time in the morning).
