Channel Nine’s The Block judge and Suncorp ambassador Shaynna Blaze presents a series of tips and tricks that can help you save money and add value to your home.
Apartment living is a reality for many Australians, and can offer benefits like affordability, convenience and community. Making your home in an apartment can, however, leave you feeling pretty limited when it comes to storage space.
The good news is, there are a few ideas you can use to be smarter with your space and maximise your storage capacity.
It’s undeniable apartment living is a big part of real estate buzz in Australia.
What comes with that is the need to be smarter with our living spaces and consider space-saving options in every room.
Let’s see what we can find here. Sometimes you don’t have to buy extra storage furniture.
Integrating a full shelving system inside cupoboards, pantries and wardrobes can double your hidden storage space, leaving less chance to get things creeping outside and creating clutter.
Consider if you really do need a dining table. Could you create a dining space in your kitchen bench?
Multifunctional furniture means less footprint is taken up by extra pieces.
An ottoman with the lift-up top can be used for extra storage, seating, and pop a tray on it and you have a coffee or side table.

Making the most of your apartment space
Make the most of the storage you have
If you think you need extra storage, perhaps because of some new wardrobe additions or must-have décor items (hey, the only thing better than a comfy woollen throw rug is TWO comfy woollen throw rugs), you may be tempted to spend big bucks on extra storage furniture. But this doesn’t have to be Plan A – there are a few things you can do maximise the storage potential of your existing furniture (and avoid a budget blowout while you’re at it!).
If you have a cupboard, pantry or wardrobe that isn’t quite living up to its space-saving potential, you could consider installing a shelving system inside it. This can significantly increase – maybe even double! – your hidden storage space, creating dedicated areas for things like accessories, linen, and kitchenware.
Rethink your furniture
Take a look around your apartment, and have a think about what your requirements are. Do you really need a dining table? Maybe you could create a dining area around your kitchen bench.
