Frequently asked questions
If you purchase one of our 3 levels of Comprehensive Car Insurance, Suncorp Roadside Assist is available as optional cover.
Any person that you know will drive your car repeatedly should be listed as a driver on your policy.
The exception to this are learner drivers who do not need to be listed on the policy until they get their licence. They will still be covered while driving the car while on their learners and the relevant parts of the PDS will apply to any claim. A standard excess and other applicable excesses (such as an age excess or inexperienced driver excess) apply if the learner is driving at the time of the incident.
It is always better to list any person on your policy who will drive your car, as if you don’t, it may result in an additional excess, a reduction or refusal of a claim. Please note: Learner drivers are not covered to drive a Hire Car obtained under your insurance policy. We also do not cover any driver under the age of 25 while driving a High-Performance vehicle.
Please refer to the PDS for more information.
Yes, we provide cover for cars
- owned, registered, and insured in a private name (the name of an individual) and
- the owner of the car, or a listed driver on the policy, drives the car to provide trips or journeys for passengers for a fee and
- the arrangement is with the car owner or listed driver via a ridesharing platform, website or app.
Taxis, hire cars or cars used in car sharing schemes are not treated as ride-sharing.
A Hire Car may be available depending on the level of cover you have and the type of claim you make.
*Any subsequent discounts are applied to the already discounted premium, before government taxes and charges.
1Your car becomes a total loss if it is uneconomical or unsafe to repair, including where the combined repair costs and salvage value are likely to be more than the amount covered by your policy. If your car is a total loss (which includes where your car is stolen and unrecovered after 14 days and we accept your claim for theft), and is less than 2 years old and you bought it as a new or an ex-demo model from a licensed motor dealer, we'll replace your car with a new one of the same or similar make and model.
**Optional cover benefits are subject to the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions of the insurance policy. You can’t add optional covers after an incident and have damage or loss covered for that same incident. Optional covers must be added to your policy before the incident you’re claiming for. Please refer to the PDS for more information.
^There is no cover for Suncorp Roadside Assist during the first 24 hours of adding the cover. Conditions and limits apply, including fuel value, towing distance and key assistance limits. Replacement battery cost is additional. See terms and conditions for details.
#15% Multi Policy Discount: Combine 3 or more eligible products with us and you could qualify for a 15% Multi-Policy Discount. Eligible policies are Suncorp Home, Contents, Landlord, Car, Motorcycle, Caravan (including trailer), Motorhome and Boat insurance. Suncorp QLD CTP Insurance counts as an eligible policy, but it cannot be discounted due to government regulations. Discounts do not apply to Suncorp Roadside Assist, Suncorp Insurance Home Assist and Excess-free Glass optional covers. Taxes and charges are not discounted. View full terms and conditions.

Limit is up to a total of $1,500 per claim.
Hire car after a not at fault incident
If you’ve had an incident that’s not your fault, we’ll arrange and pay for you to have a hire car while your car is being repaired. Disclaimer: Conditions apply. Terms and conditions apply, see the PDS for full details.
Lifetime new for old car replacement
If your car is stolen or damaged in an insured incident and your claim is accepted as a total loss, we’ll replace it with a brand new car of the same make and model (or similar make and model if the same isn’t available), or pay you the cost to replace your car with a new one, no matter how old it gets. This is provided you’re the first registered owner of the car and it’s been insured continuously under our Comprehensive Advantages cover from within 13 months of it first being purchased.
If your car is financed, we’ll need written consent provided to us by the financier before replacing your car.
See the PDS for full details.
