Medicare Levy Surcharge

The Medicare Levy Surcharge (MLS) is a government tax on top of the normal Medicare Levy and impacts singles with a taxable income of over $93,000 or families (including couples and single-parents) with a taxable income of over $186,000 who don’t have an appropriate level of private hospital insurance for the full financial year.

Holding any Suncorp Health Insurance Hospital Cover product means you won’t pay the MLS if your income is above the government threshold and you maintain your hospital cover for the full financial year.

Read the Suncorp Health Insurance Policy Booklet for more information.

Have a young family at home?

Choosing the cover that suits you and your family’s needs depends on your current family situation. Consider the things you’ll probably need, plus any extras you may need in the future*. Having cover that’s flexible, reliable and available can help you to stress less and get on with life.

Silver Everyday Hospital Plus Cover can cover your little ones for many in-hospital costs with no excess. This can make common kids’ procedures, like tonsil or appendix removal, and ear grommets a little easier on you and your family*.

Once your kids have grown up, they can be covered by your Health Insurance policy up to the age of 31. However, they must be still studying full-time and registered as a Student Dependant. Plus, there’s no hospital excess for dependants — giving you peace of mind when you need it most.
