Health Insurance
Suncorp Health Insurance has flexible cover options to take the worry out of injury and illness. You can get cover for in-hospital treatments, everyday extras, or both, for a little extra peace of mind.
What is health insurance?
Most private health insurance lets you pick a level of cover to help pay some of the cost of medical services and treatments, such as in-hospital treatments and everyday health services like optical and dental. The kind and level of cover you choose often depends on your health or wellbeing needs and your budget.
You can buy Hospital and Extras as a combined cover for peace of mind, or you can choose Hospital only or Extras only. Taking out a Suncorp Health Insurance Extras policy means that every time you claim for an insured service or treatment, you’ll get 60% or 75% back depending on your product, up to the annual limit.
How much do you value your body?
Female 1: My most valuable thing would have to be our house.
Female 2: Probably my house.
Female 3: My apartment.
Female 4: My dog Archie.
Male 1: The most valuable thing I have would be my camera, it’s my tool for work, it’s probably the-financially the most valuable thing I have.
Male 2: My red sports car, you know, you need to have a sport car so I went out and bought that.
Female 5: The most expensive thing I own is my house, it’s a really nice house.
[On screen text]: What about your body?
Male 2: Mmm, yeah that’s super important.
Male 1: Uuumm
Male 3: That’s a very interesting question.
Female 3: I guess I picked a thing.
Female 1: It really probably, well definitely, is the most valuable thing that I have.
[One screen text]: You own your car…And protect it. You own your home…And protect it. So why not protect your body?
Male 2: It is probably the most important thing in your life but until something goes wrong you don’t really realise just how important it is.
Female 3: I would do a different drawing, I’d maybe do like muscles or something.
Male 4: I should think about that.
Male 1: You’ve only got one body.
[On screen text]: It’s your body. Protect it.

Pathology tests in an out-patient setting are covered by Medicare, and therefore aren’t covered by Suncorp Health Insurance. It’s best to check with Medicare to determine what tests are covered and whether you’ll experience any out of pocket costs.
If your Hospital cover provides cover for your treatment, you’ve served your waiting period (including waiting periods for pre-existing conditions) and are admitted as inpatient, your test will be covered.
To support members, coverage has been temporarily expanded for chest, lung, kidney or other treatment related to COVID-19 across all levels of Hospital cover at no additional cost until 30 September 2021. Along with other health insurers across Australia, any treatment for COVID-19 as an outpatient that is covered by Medicare will not be covered by Suncorp Health Insurance. To review your level of cover, log in to your My Account or call us on 13 11 55.

Useful tips from our experts
Hospital Cover
When you need to go to hospital it's Hospital Cover that helps pay for treatment as a private patient. Things like accommodation, intensive care, surgery and any prescription medication required for specific treatment when you’re in hospital are covered under Hospital Cover, depending on your level of cover.
Extras Cover
Extras Cover helps with common healthcare services not usually covered by Medicare. It's for services like dental check-ups, spectacles from the optometrist, and physio appointments if you pull a muscle.
