Suncorp Bank has worked hard to bring you as many useful and exciting functions for your Visa Debit card as possible – but what’s the point of all that if they’re not being put to good use?* This handy guide is here to highlight some of our favourite functions, as well as help you understand how (and when) to use them so that you’re getting the most out of your Visa Debit card!

Temporarily lock your card

We all know that sinking feeling – you check your wallet, purse or pocket and you can’t find your Suncorp Bank Visa Debit card anywhere. Did you leave it behind at a café? Has it fallen down behind one of your couch cushions?

While you’re doing a frantic search, you might want to temporarily lock your card to give you peace of mind that if someone finds it before you, they won’t be able to go on any shopping sprees. This can be particularly helpful if you know where it is, but aren’t able to go and collect it right away.

Luckily, we’ve made it super easy to immediately put a temporary lock on your card. All you have to do is log into the Suncorp Bank App and tap ‘Manage cards’ on Banking screen. Then select the card you need to lock – you’ll see the option to do so there.

Of course, after you’ve found your card, you can unlock it just as easily using the App. Depending on where your card was “hiding”, it can be worth keeping an eye on your transactions for a few days afterwards, in case someone has taken down your card details and is doing some unauthorised spending.

Remember, if you can’t find your card and you think you’ve just misplaced it, give us a call on 13 11 55 and we can organise for your old card to be cancelled and a new card issued to you.

Block most gambling transactions

For more spending control, it’s easy to turn on the Gambling Lock for your Visa Debit card. It’s designed to block transactions with gambling services like casino games, sports betting and online gambling. Just go to the ‘Manage Cards’ screen in the App (as described above) and tap on ‘Manage Gambling Lock’.

You can turn off the Gambling Lock at any time, but it will remain in place for 48 hours after you deactivate it.

Turn off Visa payWave

Visa payWave has been making waves (no pun intended) in Australia, allowing shoppers to just ‘tap’ their card and instantly make purchases of under $100 (and enter your PIN if making a purchase above $100). Although a convenient option for many, it might not be your cup of tea – which is fine! Or, perhaps you love Visa payWave but just want to temporarily turn it off to get in control of your spending.

Again, you can disable payWave on your Visa Debit card at any time using the Suncorp Bank App. In the same Manage Cards section, select the relevant card, and select the option to ‘Restrict Visa payWave Payments’. It’s that simple!

Restrict Internet transactions

The Internet has opened us up to an incredibly convenient way of living – and shopping. Although there’s a lot of good that can come from the boundless options available to us with just a click of a button, sometimes that easy access can make spending a bit too easy, making saving difficult.

If you feel like you’re a bit too trigger-happy with online shopping and your budgeting is taking a hit because of it, you can use the Suncorp Bank App to help get it under control.

Just navigate to Manage Cards in the App, as described above. Then select the relevant card and choose the option to ‘Restrict Internet Transactions’. With this option turned on, you won’t be able to use your Visa Debit card to buy anything online or over the phone. This includes subscriptions and recurring card payments – so make sure you think of those before activating this one!

You can keep it on or off for as long as you want, so your spending (and saving) freedom is completely in your hands.

Spend you own money when overseas

You’ve got your bags packed, passport ready, and holiday mode thoroughly switched on – what else are you missing? Oh that’s right – your spending money! Navigating the whole international currency thing can be a bit tricky.

Fortunately, you can use your Suncorp Bank Visa Debit card overseas just like you would here, at over 100 million locations.^

Avoid foreign currency conversion fees with Suncorp Bank

For Everyday Options, Carbon Insights and Everyday Essentials Account holders with a Suncorp Bank Visa Debit card*, Suncorp Bank has:

• no foreign currency conversion fees
  and
• no cash advance fees for withdrawals at ATMs outside of Australia. 

These fee savings are only available to Suncorp Bank Visa Debit cardholders with an Everyday Options, Carbon Insights or Everyday Essentials Account.

What if you’re not travelling?

For added security when you’re at home in Australia, you can easily toggle on and off overseas in-store payments through the Suncorp Bank App.

You can use this function in the same way as the others mentioned above – just log into the App, go to Manage Cards, choose the relevant card, then turn on the option to ‘Restrict Overseas In-Store Payments’.
