A partnership designed to help save what matters
Millions of Australians struggle to access food every year, all while food waste is on the rise. That's why Suncorp Bank has joined forces with OzHarvest: to make a real, positive impact.
Delivering around 30 million meals and saving 11,000 tonnes of food from landfill every year, OzHarvest is the leading food rescue organisation in Australia
Our partnership with OzHarvest has resulted in
More than 1,606,884 meals delivered to Australians in need
Over 2,900kg of food donations from Suncorp Bank staff
Supporting OzHarvest Brisbane’s new community kitchen
To help reduce food waste and deliver more nutritious meals to Queenslanders in need, Suncorp Bank helped fund a new OzHarvest kitchen in Brisbane.
The kitchen space allows OzHarvest to prepare an additional 1,000 meals every week.
Suncorp Bank team members are proud to be part of this amazing effort. Our staff have participated in more than 300 'Cooking for a Cause' events so far in Brisbane and OzHarvest kitchens nationwide.
Watch the Brisbane kitchen in action.
[Nick Fernando]
The team and I are here today at cooking for a cause at OzHarvest’s brand new kitchen. We're very lucky. We're one of the first teams to come out here to test drive the brand-new kitchen.
[Bernado Tobias]
Our partnership with Suncorp has really enabled us to bring this kitchen to Salsbury and to operate under one roof, which basically created efficiencies across the board for us operationally and allows us to make a lot more meals so the Community, which is brilliant in a time of need.
[Nick Fernando]
Well food security and cost of living is really important right now - with 6 million people that really need this help and we're here to help those local communities.
[Melinda McInturff]
I've never seen more demand for food than I have in the last 12 months. Rent is so high in our community and people are just struggling to put food on the table every day. I cannot rate our partnership with OzHarvest high enough. It enables us to provide food to our community that we would never be able to provide without their support We have some parents that come to our community centre and get meals so that they don't have to miss out on the food. They can feed their kids, they can feed themselves and not worry about where their next meal is coming from.
[Kara Urbanska-Bull]
So having the kitchen on site not only does it unite the team, where where all of the drivers are under one roof, the chefs are under one roof and the office people went all together, it also allows us to cook an extra 1,000 meals a week that can be delivered to those in need. So our Cooking for a Cause program is our team building program where our corporate partners get to come in the kitchen and cook with us OzHarvest chefs and our wonderful Yellow Army of volunteers, where we'll take surplus rescued food and we'll repurpose it into a delicious meal that we can deliver to the community.
[Melinda McInturff]
You know, when someone gives you a home prepared meal, there's nothing better than that. That someone's actually cut the things up in there, with their own hands and put love into a bowl.
[Bernado Tobias]
So we're here inviting every corporate team out there who is willing to roll up their sleeves and get amongst it and help us come through and cook for cause with us.

More about OzHarvest
We are OzHarvest. We're building a sustainable food culture. A world where food is not wasted but produced, distributed and consumed sustainably. Where everyone can access a fresh, nutritious and affordable meal. It's a big job and needs change at all levels of society. From government, business, manufacturers, farmers, supermarkets, restaurants and households, it needs all of us. We got the laws changed in four different states to allow food to be given away for free without fear of liability. We've changed the way people think about food waste each year. We deliver around 20 million nourishing meals to those in need. 7,000 of tons of good quality food from landfill. Through our education and engagement programs, we've changed behaviour and shifted awareness around food security and sustainability. We've already achieved significant change and that's what makes OzHarvest the leader in this space. Because all over the world, millions of people still go hungry whilst good food has continually wasted. In Australia, we produce enough food to feed 60 million people a year but every month more than 600,000 people, a third of them children, need food relief from charities. Globally one-third of all food produced gets wasted every year. This adds up to 1.3 billion tonnes and is literally costing us the earth. The problems facing us are enormous we must be truly innovative on how we tackle them. This constant innovation keeps us front of mind and makes us a role model in the sector. We have huge goals to meet and we're always striving to go further do better and be even greater. OzHarvest is now a global leader in food sustainability. Our model has been replicated in the UK, New Zealand, Thailand and South Africa. Everyone in the OzHarvest family is on the same mission. We are so excited about the work we are doing on the ground to fight food waste. And we're excited by the many different opportunities that we have to build a sustainable food culture for the future. There are still many hungry hearts and bellies. Together we'll continue to do whatever we can to nourish our country. We are OzHarvest. Find out more at ozharvest.org.
