What’s covered

A “flood” means the covering of normally dry land by water that has escaped or been released from the normal confines of:

  • a lake, river, creek or another natural watercourse (whether or not these have been altered or modified),
  • a reservoir,
  • a canal, or
  • a dam.

We do not provide cover for flood in the first 72 hours of a new policy. Very limited exceptions apply.

What’s not covered

There are instances where you are not covered such damage caused by actions or movements of the sea or storm surge. There are also certain structures (e.g. retaining walls, boat jetties, pontoons) that we don't cover for flood damage. You can find more information about the instances where you might not have cover in the Product Disclosure Statement.
