If you want your investments to consider issues like climate change and fossil fuels, production of controversial weapons and human rights abuses, among others, we have four options you can choose from. All have been certified by the Responsible Investment Association Australia (RIAA), for having processes in place to avoid investment in companies affected by these issues.

You can invest in an option certified by the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia

Having a responsible investing approach involves incorporating environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into investment decisions. If this is important to you, you can choose to invest your super in one or more of the accredited Suncorp Multi-Manager diversified investment options:

Suncorp Multi-Manager Conservative Fund

Suncorp Multi-Manager Balanced Fund

Suncorp Multi-Manager Growth Fund

Suncorp Multi-Manager High-Growth Fund

Investments of these four options are guided by:

a belief that successful long-term investing is strengthened by consideration of sustainable business practices
adherence to an ESG framework that sets out which industries, sectors or companies can or cannot be invested in
the Suncorp Group’s Responsible Investment Policy, and
the Trustee’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Risk Management Policy.

Together, these principles and policies set the framework for excluding investment in companies that are deemed inconsistent with these principles.

The Suncorp Multi-Manager diversified funds have responsible investment principles integrated across every asset class, except for international listed property and unlisted infrastructure. We’re unable to apply responsible investing considerations to these two asset classes due to the nature of the underlying investments.

What's excluded from the options?

If you invest in the Suncorp Multi-Manager diversified investment options, negative and controversy screens are used to exclude investment in companies that:

Human rights – cause human harm or rights violations
Armaments – manufacture controversial weapons
Tobacco – produce tobacco or that have ownership in tobacco products or services, and any companies included in Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®) 30203010 (Consumer staples > Food beverage and tobacco > Tobacco)
Recreational cannabis – create products that are detrimental to human health with no safe level of human use or consumption, for example recreational cannabis
Fossil fuels – are principally involved in the production of thermal coal, or planning new projects or significant expansion of existing projects for fossil fuel extraction, or thermal coal electricity generation.

What does RIAA certification mean?

IRIAA's RI Certification Symbol signifies that a product or service offers an investment style that takes into account environmental, social, governance or ethical considerations. The Symbol also signifies that the Suncorp Multi-Manager diversified investment options adhere to the strict operational and disclosure practices required under the Responsible Investment Certification Program for the category of Superfund Option.

Responsible investment strategies are formal, disclosed, consistent, auditable and fit for purpose

Product discloses full holdings (including holdings by fund of funds), peformance, sustainability outcomes and engagement and voting practices

Product labels are clear, honest and not misleading

Product is managed by active stewards and managers can
detail the stewardship practices, such as engagement and voting and the improved outcomes of
the practices

Product avoids significant
harm - at minimum excludes tobacco and controversial weapons producers

Managing organisation has
a formal commitment to responsible investment

Investment process accounts for environmental, social and governance factors

Managing organisation provides educational information to members and customers about the responsible investment strategies and investing outcomes

What does RIAA certification mean?

Suncorp's ESG credentials

Suncorp Group Limited ABN 66 145 290 124 (Suncorp) was one of the first 250 companies globally to be a signatory to the Financial Stability Board's Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and holds high regard for the importance of ESG considerations.

The TCFD was created in 2015 by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) to develop consistent climate-related financial risk disclosures for use by companies, banks, and investors in providing information to stakeholders. You can find out more here

What are the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment?

The six principles are:

1. Incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes

2. Be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into ownership policies and practices

3. Seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues from the entities invested in

4. Promote acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry

5. Work together to enhance the effectiveness in implementing the Principles

6. Report on activities and progress towards implementing the Principles.
