Understanding daily limits and transaction limits

To protect your account, we limit the amount you can send via Internet Banking and the Suncorp Bank App.

Understanding daily limits and transaction limits

To protect your account, we limit the amount you can send via Internet Banking and the Suncorp Bank App.

Daily limits and transaction limits apply to:

  • Payments made via BPAY 1
  • Payments made to a PayID
  • Payments made to a BSB and Account number
  • Payments made to an international payee 2

Payments between your own Suncorp Bank Accounts are not subject to daily limits or transaction limits (except when using PayID).

Daily limit

By default, you can send a total of $5,000 per day via Internet Banking or the Suncorp Bank App – this is called a daily limit. Once you’ve reached your daily limit you won’t be able to make any further payments in Internet Banking or the Suncorp Bank App until the following day.

  • The default daily limit is $5,000.
  • You can increase your daily limit to a maximum of $50,000 per day.
  • Your daily limit will reset at approximately midnight (AEST) each day.

Transaction limit

After you make payments totalling $3,000, we’ll ask you to authorise any further payments using a Security Token Code – this is called a transaction limit.

  • You can’t change the transaction limit.
  • The transaction limit remains the same even when you change your daily limit.
  • The transaction limit will reset at approximately midnight (AEST) each day.

Making payments above your daily and transaction limits

Let’s say your current daily limit is set to $5,000 (which is the default for Suncorp Bank customers), but you need to make a payment of $10,000 via Internet Banking. To complete this payment, you’ll need to take the following steps:

1. First, you’ll need to increase your daily limit to at least $10,000 before you attempt to make the payment. You may need to choose a higher amount if you’ve already made payments that day, or if you plan to make further payments. To change your daily limit in Internet Banking, you’ll need to generate a Security Token Code using the Suncorp Bank Secured App.

2. Once you’ve changed your daily limit, continue with the payment as normal. You’ll be asked for a Security Token Code to authorise the payment as it will take you above the $3,000 transaction limit.
You can use the Suncorp Bank Secured App to generate a new Security Token Code and submit the payment.

3. For any further payments you make that day in Internet Banking or the Suncorp Bank App, you’ll need to enter a Security Token Code, even if you’re only spending $1. You’ll also need to make sure you have enough of your daily limit remaining. Remember, you can only increase your daily limit up to a maximum of $50,000.

Change your daily limit

You'll need to register for the Suncorp Bank Secured App before you can change your daily limit in Internet Banking.

To keep your account secure, Security Token Codes will expire after 60 seconds. Make sure there’s enough time remaining for you to enter the code when required.

1. Log in to the Suncorp Bank Secured App to generate a Security Token Code (One Time Password).

2. Open Internet Banking and log in using your Customer ID, password and the Security Token Code.

3. Click ‘Settings & Security’ in the left-hand menu and click ‘Change’ next to the daily limit amount.

4. Select your new daily limit from the drop-down menu. If you can’t see different amounts in the drop-down menu, it may mean you haven’t registered for the Suncorp Bank Secured App.

5. Re-open the Suncorp Bank Secured App to generate a new Security Token Code.

6. Go back to Internet Banking, enter the newest Security Token Code and click ‘Submit’.

Tick icon   Agree to the terms and conditions and your new Daily Limit will now be active until you change it or deregister from the Suncorp Bank Secured App.

Remember, changing your daily limit has no effect on your transaction limit. You’ll still need to generate a Security Token Code for any payments over your transaction limit.

Authorise a payment after you reach your transaction limit

You'll need to register for the Suncorp Bank Secured App before you can generate a Security Token Code to authorise a payment.

To keep your account secure, Security Token Codes will expire after 60 seconds. Make sure there’s enough time remaining for you to enter the code when required.

1. When you make a transfer or payment in Internet Banking or the Suncorp Bank App that exceeds your transaction limit, you’ll be asked for a Security Token (Internet Banking) or a Verification Code (Suncorp Bank App).

2. If you receive this prompt, log in to the Suncorp Bank Secured App to generate the Security Token Code (One Time Password).

3. Go back to Internet Banking or the Suncorp Bank App and enter the Security Token Code and click ‘Confirm’ (Internet Banking) or ‘Verify’ (Suncorp Bank App).

Tick icon   If your transaction exceeds your daily limit, you’ll be prompted to increase your daily limit via Internet Banking. In this case the transaction will be rejected and you’ll need to increase your daily limit before you try again.

Additional limits for business customers

Business accounts are subject to the standard online transaction limits, daily limits and international transfer limits. However, business accounts can choose to add additional limits in the form of account limits and personal limits.

Account limits

An account limit is the maximum amount that can be debited from your business account each day regardless of how many registered users are listed on the account. The account limit replaces the daily limit.

Account limits will reset at approximately midnight (AEST) each day.

Personal limits

If there are multiple registered users on your business account, you can choose to limit the payment amount for each individual user by setting a personal limit. You’ll need to set up an account limit before you can add personal limits. Personal limits cannot exceed the account limit.

Personal limits will reset at approximately midnight (AEST) each day.

To add account or personal limits to your business account(s), please talk to your Relationship Manager, visit us in branch, or contact us.
