29 May 2017
Suncorp Banking & Wealth Chief Risk Officer, Christine Traquair, has been recognised for her strong leadership and approach to risk management at the 27th Australian Retail Banking Awards, named the 2017 Chief Risk Officer of the Year.
Banking & Wealth CEO, David Carter, said managing risk is a key contributor to Suncorp’s success, and Christine had been instrumental in delivering the Bank’s results.
“Suncorp’s recent results have featured very low bad debts driven by strong risk management, improved credit selection and a deeper understanding of the risks in our portfolio,” Mr Carter said.
“Christine has been critical to this outcome and she has been a great advocate for ensuring risk culture is at the forefront of our operations.”
Ms Traquair was appointed Banking & Wealth Chief Risk Officer in May 2014 and has more than 30 years’ experience working in financial services. She said she was thrilled to accept the award, particularly given the strength of her peers in this category.
“Suncorp recognises that an effective risk management system plays a critical role in achieving our business objectives,” Ms Traquair said.
“It has been my priority to embed a positive risk culture, lift the capability of the business surrounding risk management, and help empower our people to take ownership of risk.
“We have a great team at Suncorp and I’m honoured to have been named the 2017 Chief Risk Officer of the Year.”
