Including diverse people and skills

03 August 2017

For a business to prosper it needs a culture that encourages people to bring new ideas and fresh perspectives to the organisation.

Suncorp’s Employee Resource Groups play a critical role in supporting the company's vision to build a diverse and inclusive environment for its 13,400 employees across Australia and New Zealand.

Groups are formed by people who share a passion for a social issue or community initiative including cultural diversity, equality and inclusion.

Inspired by the impact Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg was having around the world on gender equality, Suncorp’s Head of Stores and Speciality Banking Delivery, Dominique Layt formed Suncorp’s first Lean In chapter.

"Suncorp is full of people who want to make a meaningful difference to the lives of their colleagues, customers and communities," said Ms Layt.

"Lean In provided an opportunity to harness this enthusiasm and create a community of men and women passionate about driving positive change for gender equality.

"Confidence flourishes in an inclusive environment. Lean In creates opportunities for our people to learn together and support each other to confidently pursue their ambitions.

"Since the launch of our first chapter, our people have embraced the concept and activated a series of smaller circles aligned with themes they’re passionate about, including work life balance, career development and networking, and influencing Suncorp’s diversity agenda."

Lean In is one of Suncorp's Employee Resource Groups formed this year and reflects Suncorp’s commitment to providing a diverse and inclusive workforce where people can be their best.
