Cyclone Debbie: Three months on

Last week I returned to North Queensland to visit some of our customers impacted by Cyclone Debbie. The resilience and strength of these communities is extraordinary. 

It was great to see many of our customers back in their homes so soon after the disaster, especially given its size and scale. Suncorp teams have been working hard with local builders to finalise nearly 100 claims per day. Since the disaster, Suncorp has received close to 19,000 claims from residents and businesses and so far we have finalised more than half of them.

Our builders are also rebuilding older properties with significant damage to a more cyclone resilient standard. This reinforces the importance of having appropriate mitigation in place – it reduces risk and makes homes and communities safer.

We know it has been a tough time for impacted regions and we appreciate our customer’s patience. Suncorp remains committed to supporting our customers and communities until they’re back on their feet.
