Suncorp supports Fuel2Fly to help build resilience in girls

15 September 2017

Suncorp has joined with Queensland Firebirds and Australian Diamonds stars Laura Geitz and Clare McMeniman to bring their Fuel2Fly clinics to a new generation of young netballers.

Suncorp Chief Customer Experience Officer, Mark Reinke, said Fuel2Fly powered by Suncorp was an effective way to encourage girls’ participation in sport.

“Netball has one of the highest participation rates of kids’ sport in Australia and we are pleased to add our support to this great initiative,” Mr Reinke said.

“Laura and Clare are excellent ambassadors for netball and they’ve been instrumental in helping Suncorp champion our #TeamGirls program to help foster confidence in girls.”

Suncorp launched #TeamGirls earlier this year with Netball Australia on the back of research that showed girls who participate in sport are more confident.

“Fuel2Fly focusses on more than just netball skills; it encourages teamwork, leadership and confidence on and off the court, which aligns with Suncorp’s values and is what #TeamGirls is all about,” Mr Reinke said.

Co-founder, Laura Geitz, said Fuel2Fly was about helping girls be comfortable in their own skin.

“Ultimately, we want to help build a nation of confident girls, who are proactive in life and positively engaged in their communities,” Laura said.

“As #TeamGirls ambassadors, both Clare and I can see the synergies between the program and Fuel2Fly. Through netball, we can see that everyone has different strengths and skills that are unique, and we want to help girls to value what is special about themselves, instead of comparing themselves to others.”

Laura and Clare will recruit the help of some of other Suncorp Super Netball players to offer 18 clinics annually for girls aged nine to 14 years, in metropolitan and regional Australia.

The clinics, which cost $77 each and include a $7 donation going to Netball Australia’s Confident Girls Foundation, commence in Rockhampton on Sunday, 17 February, and will visit Mackay, Townsville, Pine Rivers, and Western Districts in Queensland, Menai and Sydney Olympic Park in NSW.

Participants can register online at www.fuel2fly.com.au.
