A guide to calculating the Replacement Value of your Home
The replacement cost of your Home may vary depending on its design, features, fixtures and fittings. By following a few easy steps below, this guide is designed to help you calculate the replacement costs of your Home Building. If you are unsure, we recommend that you obtain a professional valuation by contacting a builder or expert.
The Home Building costs shown are based on upper estimates for a medium standard finish house from Rawlinsons Australian Construction Handbook (2004). The amounts given reflect average building costs in Capital Cities and Country Towns. For example, more remote areas may result in higher building costs. Also, building costs shown do not include permanent improvements such as garden sheds, driveways, fences, heating, air conditioning, swimming pools, spas, unique features such as split levels, full bathroom tiling, terracotta tiles etc.
To begin:
Calculate the size of your Home in square metres. You can do this by measuring the home from the outside or from your house plans if you have them.

Using the above example, the size of your Home is: A (10 x 10 = 100) + B (5 x 20 = 100) = 200 metres square
