Following a review of ATM fees by the Reserve Bank of Australia, all banks are now
operating under the ‘ATM Direct Charging’ model, effective March 3, 2009.
|
What is ATM direct charging?
|
ATM direct charging means that if you use another banks ATM you will be charged
directly by that bank, rather than by your bank.
For example, as a Suncorp Bank Customer, if you use another bank’s ATM, then the
other bank will charge you for using their ATM.
|
|
What’s changing?
|
From March 3, 2009, you will see the ATM owner fee each time you use a foreign ATM.
After you key in your PIN, a message will appear on the ATM screen:
- You will be shown how much the ATM owner will charge you to use the ATM; and
- You will be asked whether you want to continue with your transaction, or whether
you want to cancel.
- If you decide to continue, the ATM owner’s fee will be taken out of your
account at the time of the transaction.
- If you decide to cancel, no fee applies.
|
|
Why is this change happening?
|
The industry has been working with the Reserve Bank on ways to improve transparency
including how to make foreign ATM charges clearer to customers.
It will be up to each bank will set their own fees for transactions at their ATMs.

to receive fee-free transactions at Suncorp Bank ATMs.
This will also apply for Suncorp Bank EFTPOS transactions as part of your fee-free

|
What are non-Suncorp Bank designated (DNS) ATMs?
|
DNS stands for Designated Non-Suncorp Bank ATM. These are ATMs that don’t have Suncorp
Bank logos or colours on them but are a partnered ATM with us.
If you use a Suncorp Bank DNS ATM, whilst a fee screen may show up during your transaction,
Suncorp Bank will reimburse the fee straight away. This partnership allows us to
extend our ATM network in a much faster way.
