Injury Prevention
- Ensure adequate training of all employees on workplace safety and emergency procedures.
- Display adequate safety signage advising of caution or safety equipment to be worn
eg. Protective gloves or eyewear.
- Know & practice competent Occupational Health & Safety - ask WorkCover for advice.
- Ensure work areas have adequate lighting and emergency exits.
- Ensure workers wear appropriate footwear.
- Keep floors, work benches, ladders, walkways clear, clean and even to prevent tripping
or slipping.
- Maintain easily accessible first aid equipment and amenities.
- Review the design of work stations, height of bench tops, desks and seating.
- Establish procedures for tasks involving lifting, carrying, reaching, stretching
and repetition.
- Install barriers & fencing around machinery with moving parts.
- Ensure the safe storage of hazardous chemicals.
Should an Injury Happen
- Be sympathetic to the injured person and ensure immediate care and safety.
- Call 000, clearly and calmly ask for an ambulance, explain the situation, provide
your address, directions and mobile phone number.
- Focus on giving & obtaining competent quick care for the injured until emergency
services arrives.
- When appropriate obtain the injured person?s name, contact details, and a description
of injuries.
- Record the incident in your Incident Register.
After an Injury
- Prepare a detailed record of how the injury/incident occurred.
- Call Suncorp Claims on 13 25 24 and provide full details of the incident.
- Thoroughly review incident and identify prevention factors.
