Due to the personal attention given to graduates, a graduate program is a
great way to begin a career in banking. As part of the inaugural Suncorp graduate
program we were offered the opportunity to shape the program to maximise our
personal and professional development. When considering my options after graduating
I believed this program, comprised of both formalised training and rotations
throughout various areas of the Business, was ideal to equip me to one day make
a difference both at Suncorp and within the wider business community . A career
balancing good business acumen with service to the community has always been
something I have worked towards, and the idea of working for a company which
makes a substantial contribution to volunteer work and other community endeavours
was extremely appealing. Suncorp is a company appraised for respecting their
employees and promoting the well-being of the greater community.
Since beginning with Suncorp it has become very obvious that ‘we’
are not a company that just pays lip service to corporate values. Everyone respects
and cares for their colleagues which creates a great culture. I have had the
opportunity to work across various areas in Business Banking including customer
development and strategy, commercial banking, agribusiness and corporate banking,
and my time in each area has opened my eyes to the positive culture that underpins
Suncorp. As well as this I have had the benefit of spending time working in
other areas such as treasury services and people and performance, and have taken
volunteer days to work with Greening Australia and the Cancer Council QLD. I
believe the graduate program has enabled me to enhance my technical skills as
well as given me exposure to the great business leaders at Suncorp. In a short
period of time I have been able to cultivate strong professional and social
networks which will be invaluable throughout my career.
