Qualifications you will need
Before a resident letting agent's licence can be granted, the Office of Fair Trading requires the applicant to complete an accredited course (or have a suitable amount of industry experience).
The following modules of the Property Development and Management Training Package (PRD01) form the basis of the training required to become a resident letting agent:
- PRDRE10A – Manage agency risk
- PRDRE18A – Lease property
- PRDRE19A – Provide property management services
- PRDRE28A – Main trust account
- PRDRE37A – Perform and record property management activities and transactions
- PRDRE39A – Prepare and execute documentation
In Queensland, the REIQ and TAFE Colleges offer accredited courses for the licence qualification. If you can't attend classes, ask about taking an accredited course by distance learning (correspondence).
Please note - you must also have an agreement with your body corporate to operate a letting business before you can get the relevant letting licence.
Attaining these qualifications is an important part of the process the leads to the entry into the Management Rights industry. For information regarding additional requirements please review the broader Resident Manager Application Process.
