Fires

Be prepared for fires

Fire can affect all Queenslanders. So whether you live in the city or the bush, you must have a plan for fire. While no one expects a house fire, advanced preparation for house and bush fires could make the difference to your home and your family:

  • Prepare an evacuation plan
  • Keep wood and other flammable materials well away from the house and covered
  • Keep your lawn mown short and backyard tidy
  • Consider purchasing a portable pump to use with water from your swimming pool or water tank in an emergency

Fire definition

Bushfires can be defined as any uncontrolled, non-structural fire that is burning in a grass, bush or forested area. While bushfires bring massive destruction, they also bring new life and are an essential part of our ecosystem, with many native plants relying on these fires to regenerate.
